Simplicity 9636
Pattern Description: Misses' Hoodies and Leggings by Mimi G
Pattern Sizing: 4- 20. I cut a size 20. View B
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Not really. I made several changes.
Were the instructions easy to follow? The instructions were very easy. This was my 3rd make from this pattern. However, I have never made the actually hoodie. I've made 3 dresses from this pattern.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I absolutely love this pattern as my sloper. I like the side slits and I like them in a dress.
Fabric Used: I used a light green double brushed knit from Joann Fabrics. It's very soft and flowy.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: Okay, let's get into it. I created a video as well. First, I lengthened the top to make a dress using the lengthening lines on the pattern. I traced the new pattern on pattern paper. From that pattern, I made the dress in this review. I saw a dress on Amazon (not sure if this link will last forever - but the dress name is Grecerelle summer long dress) and fell in love with it. But I wanted to make it instead of buying it. Insert Simplicity 9636. I lengthened the new pattern a little longer to recreate the Grecerelle dress. Since there was already a side slit (just a little more defined), I used that slit but made it a regular slit. I also cut the sleeves a little more so they would mimic the Grecerelle dress. I added side pockets - next time I'll sew the pocket down to the front pattern piece. That will help the pockets stay in place with knit fabric. I omitted the hood and the kangaroo pocket. I added a neckband from the same fabric. I love how this turned out.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I made another one right after in a floral green print double brush knit. I will make a couple more of these as they can be dressed up or down.
Conclusion: This has become my all time favorite pattern so far this year!
