S3100
It’s a slow sewing year in 2025… but I was able to get another project sewn.
Pattern Description: Misses Special Occasion Dress and Slip
Pattern Sizing: 8 - 26. I cut out a size 26 for View B. I usually wear a size 20-24 in Simplicity patterns but the sizing on this pattern didn't seem to have much ease and sizing up was the right choice.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes, somewhat. I cut View B but I left the bottom ruffle off the dress and added pockets. You have to have pockets. I also added a sleeve.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes. This was my wearable muslin.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I like the fit of this dress. It wasn't too tight. I wasn't a fan of the neck and bow. Maybe because I'm not a fan of bows normally. But I received a lot of compliments.
Fabric Used: I used a double brush knit from Joann's (RIP) that I bought when they were going out of business.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I left off the bottom ruffle. I added sleeves from Simplicity 9186 - using just the top part of the sleeve and leaving it open (without the gathers). The pattern instructions for the bow did not require you sew all around the neckline. After wearing the dress, I went back and attached the bow to the rest of the neckline in the back for more stability. You may not need to do this if you use a woven fabric. Because I used knit, the back neckline was gaping and falling.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Not sure if I'll make it again. If I do, I'll change the neckline and maybe include the bottom ruffle. I'd also like to View A (with a different neckline). Yes, I would recommend to others.
